CRANKY AL’S

The doughnut shop down the street from our home is a warm comforting place. Our family would spend crowded mornings there eating doughnuts, drinking coffee, and chatting with neighbors. For this project, during quarantine, I wanted to celebrate and mourne our local gathering spot.

Starting with thumbnails I initially leaned toward highlighting doughnuts, but after integrating figures the image felt more welcoming and less like an advertisement. Drawing natural-looking figures was tricky until I started modeling. Cranky’s outside signage was used for the “Cranky Al’s sign on the wall.
